Creating MIDTERM 10

I began by watching the video tutorial - B.6 Video Tutorial: Word Drawing House

After watching the video, I began using the triangle tool to create a roof.  I then filled the triangle with a texture that looked like a thatched roof.  Then, using the rectangle tool, I created the house.

I then colored the house black.  Then, using the 8 sided star basic shape, I created a sun and filled it with orange.  Then, right clicking and choosing add text, I was able to write "created by Alex Huntowski" in the sun.

Once again using the rectangle tool, I created a square window.  Then using the copy and paste option I created 3 other windows.  Using the same tool I was able to create another window and a door (with a wood texture filling).  Then, using the oval tool, I created a door knob.

MIDTERM 10

Midterm 10 was an exercise using Microsoft Word to create a drawing of a house.  Using various basic shape tools and colors/textures, I was able to create the image as seen above.

This exercise was part of an Immersive Education class I am taking at Boston College: Discovering Computer Graphics.  For more details, visit  http://ImmersiveEducation.org/@/bc.

Creating MIDTERM 9

I began by watching the video tutorial - B.5 Video Tutorial: Word Drawing Course Diagram found in our Vector Graphics textbook.

Next I used the basic shapes to create a rectangle (using the rectangle basic shape option).  From there I was able to edit the line width and color of the rectangle.  Then, using the arrow tool I created an arrow pointing down to the next subcategory - Bitmaps

Using the numerous basic shapes and modifying the lines and colors of these shapes, I was able to create a course diagram.  Using the text capabilities, I was able to create words within the modified shapes.

MIDTERM 9

For this assignment, we had to use Microsoft Word (however this is done using Open Office) to create basic shapes and lines to create a course diagram drawing.

B.4 Video Tutorial: Word Drawing Introduction

Here I am using Open Office (instead of Microsoft Word) to create colors, lines, and shapes.  This exercise was part of a an Immersive Education class I am taking at Boston College: Discovering Computer Graphics.  For more details, visit  http://ImmersiveEducation.org/@/bc.

3 Examples of Texture Mapped Graphics

Above are three pictures of texture mapped graphics.  These graphics use mapped textures (brick, grass, and wood) to create the a more realistic image (as opposed to using a flat shaded color).  These pictures were taken in Rocket World of the Immersive Education class at Boston College: Discovering Computer Graphics.  For details, visit http://ImmersiveEducation.org/@/bc.

3 Examples of Flat Shaded Graphics

Here are three examples of solid color or flat shaded graphics.  These graphics were found in RocketWorld for the Immersive Education class at Boston College: Discovering Computer Graphics.  For details, visit http://ImmersiveEducation.org/@/bc.

Texture Map Example

Above is a picture of two 3D graphics.  One is colored in plain coloring (image 1), while the other is colored using textures.  The image with textures looks more realistic and clearer.  Image 1, although resembling a tank, does not look realistic for it is colored using plain and vibrant colors.  Image 2 is an example of a texture map.

EDITING AVATAR IN ROCKETWORLD

After creating my Avatar, I signed into Rocket World and began editing my Avatar's appearance.  For some reason, editing all the physical features but my eyes were locked.  As a result, I was only able to edit my clothes.

Creating MIDTERM 6

I began by opening GIMP and creating a transparent layer

I then used a layer for text and wrote the message "My name is Alex Huntowski"

After creating more layers, I downloaded the Tux image to my pictures.  I then had one layer (with white background) that was designated for the image.  Following the steps on the tutorial, I copy and pasted the image into the clipboard.  Then, I had to anchor the image to the layer.  Furthermore, I had to vary some of the layers opacity so the image would show through and I could see what I was doing.

After reading the second tutorial, I followed the steps and created a new image with a text circle.  The text displayed was simply my name.

I then copied the image, created a new layer, naming it NL 1, and then pasted the image into that layer and anchored it.  I then used the rotation tool and rotated the image 45 degrees.

After repeating the steps several times (adding a new layer, copying the image, and then rotating), I created the image.  I then saved image as an animated gif file.

Understanding Layers

Animated GIF

For this assignment, I viewed both tutorials (B.7 GIMPshop Tutorial #4) understanding and using layers, and B.7 GIMPshop Tutorial #6) animated GIFs).  The first assignment was to demonstrate the use of layers in GIMPshop.  Using various layers, I created an image where a penguin (TUX) was on a layer beneath the text layer.  The second assignment was to created and animated GIF file by again using layers.  Each layer had circular text rotated by a different angle to act as if the text were spinning around in a circle.

This was an exercise using GIMPshop for an Immersive Education class for Boston College - For details visit http://ImmersiveEducation.org/@/bc.

CREATING MIDTERM 5

I began by watching the first tutorial video, B.11 GIMPshop Video Tutorial: Progressive and Interlaced

After I watched the second video, B.12 GIMPshop Video Tutorial: Progressive JPEG

I began doing the exercise (Midterm 5A) by opening the image in GIMP and writing my name using the pen tool.

I then saved the image as copy and gave it a .png file format

Finally I saved the image again as a JPEG and adjusted the quality.  I also checked the progressive box to ensure that it was loaded as a progressive image.

After I completed midterm5A, I watched the third and final video B.13 GIMPshop Video Tutorial: Interlaced PNG

I then saved the image as a gif file much the same as I did for the jpeg.  Except here I chose interlaced (Adam7) - the creator of interlacing for png files - and then saved the image.

MIDTERM 5

Midterm 5A
Midterm 5B
In midterm 5, I worked with the monster.jpg file to create a progressive jpeg file and an interlaced png file.  Both options allow for the image to appear on the screen as whole (however not completed) faster than the usual image scan which goes line by line.

This was an exercise using GIMPshop for an Immersive Education class for Boston College - For details visit http://ImmersiveEducation.org/@/bc.

Assignment Class 3 - Red Eye Image Formats

PNG

JPEG
GIF
In this assignment, I used my previously created and redone Midterm 1 assignment red eye photo (eyes have been blackened more) and saved it in .gif and .png formats as well.  Of the three, the .png has the best quality.  The colors are a bit sharper (as they should be for having a significantly larger file size than the .jpg file).  The .jpg surprisingly has the 2nd best image quality for it has the smallest file size.  The worst quality image is the .gif.  The colors do not blend well as you can see the colors shift (especially on the left side of the boys face).
